Phil first got paid for Dj-ing at parties at the age 15! Soon after, he used to produce mix tapes for pubs & clubs in the Slough/Windsor area before going on to DJ in them. This soon expanded into Dj-ing pubs/clubs & hotels around the Heathrow area.
During this time, he was an avid listener of Solar & Horizon radio.
Fast forward to November 17th 1999 where he did his first show for Solar Radio, sitting in for Steve Hobbs. He covered for Steve every 3rd Wednesday until landing his own show which became It’s All About The Groove.
In June 2008 Phil moved to Saturday afternoons and has broadcast on Saturday afternoons ever since.
Outside of Radio, Phil has appeared at various weekender’s up & down the country, is a regular at Ronnie Scott’s Club in Soho, became a co-founder & DJ for Soul Against Cancer, a regular at The Summer Breeze Soul Week, has played on many Soul Cruises, The Ministry Of Sound VIP room, roadied briefly for The Blues Band and now appears with the all-vinyl outfit, The Hipshakers.
He had a residency at the very popular Roller Disco in London which included playing by Royal Command at a charity event hosted by the then Kate Middleton, it’s not every day you see a future Queen on a pair of skates!!
Phil even had time to win an episode of Pointless!
Although steeped in Soul & Funk, Phil also has a keen interest in the Blues and has been known to play the Blues Harp (badly!)
Phil left Solar Radio in 2016 to explore other avenues (including producing & presenting the popular show – Amplified Soul which can be found on his mixcloud) but has come full circle by returning ‘home’ to the fold at Solar Radio in Nov 2023.
