Roberto is a musical connoisseur whose journey through the world of soulful tunes began in the late 70s. With a genuine passion for soul music and radio, Roberto embarked on a transformative adventure that eventually led him to enrol in a radio production course at London’s Morley College. His love for the medium of radio was ignited during his teenage years when he would clandestinely tune in to stations like Radio Luxembourg, enveloping himself in the intimate connection that music shared through the airwaves.
As he matured into his late twenties, Roberto was irresistibly drawn to the thrilling underground realm of London’s pirate radio scene during the 80s. This magnetic pull led him to join the ranks of iconic stations such as TKO (Total Knock Out), CD93, London City Radio, and, ultimately, Solar Radio. Those times were electric, and pirate radio was the sole platform broadcasting the soulful rhythms that coursed through the veins of inner cities nationwide. The resonance of those moments reverberated through the FM airwaves in London, and today, our reach extends across the globe.
In 1987, Roberto ventured beyond the airwaves and acquired a nightclub in Chelsea’s Kings Road, aptly named “Roberto’s.” He curated unforgettable parties within its walls, hosting luminaries like Alexander O’Neal, The Jones Girls, and even Mick Jagger for post-concert soirées. When the lease on the club expired in 1997, Roberto pivoted toward his other passion—coaching and psychology. He embarked on a professional journey, including associations with renowned clubs such as Crystal Palace FC, Brentford FC, Brighton, Charlton Athletic FC, Southampton, and West Ham United. Even today, his expertise shines as he remains a steadfast contributor to esteemed news outlets like BBC News, SKY, and other major networks as a performance psychology consultant. His work in football, tennis (he was Andy Murray’s psychologist), and boxing, working with Derek Chisora for the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship fight against Tyson Fury in December 2022, are indications of his standing in this area
In 2013, Roberto’s radio odyssey came full circle when he re-joined Solar Radio. Reconnecting with Tony Monson and Keith and the dearly departed legends Les Adams and Dave Gregory (both of whom left an indelible mark on him). After filling in for various presenters, he was offered the coveted Friday lunchtime slot from 1 to 3 p.m., where he unveiled “Juice.” In this time slot, Roberto weaves an eclectic tapestry of soul, neo-soul, lounge, and soulful house, captivating listeners worldwide, with regular audiences in the USA, Canada, Asia, Australia, and Europe,
Over the years, many artists have graced the show, including luminaries such as Mario Biondi, Michon Young, Lori Williams, Daisy Hicks, Letizia Gambi, GG, and many more. Roberto’s unwavering commitment to Solar Radio as a devoted fan has cemented his integral role in our incredible journey.
